The 11th day of the lunar month of Kartik is the day on which Lord Vishnu awakens from His four-month slumber under the earth, where He's been reclining on the luxuriant coils of the great serpent Ananta (the Unending One).? And not a moment too soon.? Things have not been going too well.? The Constituent Assembly is in the doldrums as the politicos continue with their self-serving sectarian shenanigans.? It is only under Lord Vishnu's watchful and benevolent eye, that a spirit of cooperation and cohesion in the society prevails.
Devotees of Vishnu fast and visit Vishnu and Goddess temples for several days in anticipation of the long-awaited awakening of Lord Vishnu.
