Today
(July 20) Tibetans (and us) celebrate the birth of the great tantric
wizard, the lotus-born Padmasambhava, aka Guru Rinpoche, who in the 8th
century brought Buddhism with a bang to the wilds of Tibet. We
also celebrate the birth of his amazing consort, Yeshe Tsogyal,
accomplished tapasvini and vixen.

This year Padmasambhava's day
coincides with the birthday of a popular and colorful lama, Chorling
Rinpoche, son of the late Urgyen Tulku, and a Terton, meaning a lama with a special
talent for findingTermas, hidden
teachings and prophecies left in caves, rocks, lakes, and other secret
places by Padmasambhava and the likes of him.
