July 6th Tibetan communities around the world, and their well-wishers, celebrate the 74th (or 75th since the Tibetans count the time in the womb) birthday of HH the Dalai Lama.  For he's a jolly good fellow. That nobody can deny!  Happy birthday, DL.  Many happy rebirths of the day...

In Katmandu, the Dalai Lama's birthday is celebrated joyously within the large Tibetan community here. Out of deference for the Chinese government. public displays in honor of the Dalai Lama have been suppressed in the capital. But there are pujas for His Holiness in many of the monasteries. In Buddhnath. when possible, a procession take place with a large photo of the Dalai Lama. The participant exuberantly throw tsampa (barley flowers) wishing his Holiness a long life.
